ALONE,

TOGETHER

Set within the backdrop of the county fairs of northeastern Iowa, Alone, Together is a photographic series exploring the tension between moments of individual isolation within communal activity. County fairs are places designed for collective celebration — filled with the smell of funnel cake and livestock, the noise of the midway, and the energy of crowds gathered in a spirit of shared joy.

And yet, amid all of the energy of the the tilt-a-whirls, prizes, and cotton candy, quieter moments emerge. People lost in thought, gazes turned inward, small pockets of solitude hiding in plain sight. This series is an exploration of that tension — the strange and very human experience of feeling alone in the middle of everything, carrying a private interior world even when surrounded by others.
