2024 and 2025 gave us a very active sun. The results were a number of large coronal mass ejections hammering the planet, showering the sky with radiation and giving us a number of really incredible nights of aurora activity.

I have always been drawn towards the magic of night photography. Due to the difference between how the camera sees the world vs. how our eyes see the world, night photography can give us a whole new reality that can only be experienced through the camera, a world full of color, movement, and depth that create images that verge closer to the fantastical than the “reality” that we know.

In this series I turn my camera towards the night sky. Whether its the northern lights, the milky way, comets or shooting stars, in this series the landscapes of northeastern Iowa are transformed into dream-like worlds, hopefully reminding us of the awe-inspiring grandeur of nature and just how small we are in this massive universe.
